Understanding Insights Through the Embodied Moxie Parent App

What is the Embodied Moxie Parent App?

Moxie is accompanied by a companion app that provides parents with meaningful insights into their child’s interactions with the robot. Through this companion app, parents have access to their child’s weekly progress, activities, and deep insights into their child’s abilities in three foundational developmental goal categories: Cognitive, Social, and Emotional. In addition, the companion app provides parents with insightful and actionable suggestions about supporting their child’s development. Additional functionalities of the parent app include controlling settings (e.g. volume, sleep timer), scheduling events, and accessing achievements.

What insights can I get into my child’s development from the Embodied Moxie Parent App?

The Embodied Moxie Parent App provides parents with information on how their child is progressing with Moxie in several areas. Below are some explanations of insights you may see on the app:

Cognitive Insights

Cognitive insights are made up from a combination of scores in several areas. These include:

Cognitive STAR Goals: Moxie’s content contains questions that are targeted towards cognitive goals, such as inferencing, predicting, reading comprehension, and understanding themes such as Making Mistakes and Helpfulness. During conversations between Moxie and your child, cognitive STAR goal scores are calculated based on your child’s responses to these targeted questions.

Reading Time: This metric is calculated based on the amount of time that your child has spent reading to Moxie.

Number of Books: This metric keeps track of the number of books that your child has read to Moxie.

Social Insights

Social insights are made up from a combination of scores in several areas. These include:

Social STAR Goals: Moxie’s content contains questions that are targeted towards social goals, such as asking questions, answering “wh” questions, and understanding themes including Making Friends and Kindness. During conversation between Moxie and your child, social STAR goals are calculated based on your child’s responses to these targeted questions.

Engagement: This metric keeps track of the amount of time your child spends actively engaged with Moxie, including sitting in Moxie’s field of view, responding to Moxie’s questions, and participating in content.

Turn Balance: This metric tracks the percentage of how much your child contributes to the interaction with Moxie.

Average Utterance Length: This metric keeps track of the average number of words your child says in a sentence during conversations with Moxie.

Emotional Insights

Emotional insights are made up from a combination of scores in several areas. These include:

Emotional STAR Goals: Moxie’s content contains questions that are targeted towards emotional goals, such as understanding emotions in self and others, and knowledge of self-regulation strategies. During conversations between Moxie and your child, emotional STAR goals are calculated based on your child’s responses to these targeted questions.

Mindfulness Exercises: This metric tracks the amount of time your child has spent engaged in emotion regulation activities, such as mindfulness journeys and animal breathing.

Empathy Badges: This score represents the number of badges your child has earned with Moxie centered around teaching empathy.

Why might my child not be scoring highly in certain insights areas?

The insights data shown in the Embodied Moxie parent app is highly dependent on the amount of time your child has spent with Moxie engaged in certain activities. Your child may not have scores for certain metrics if they have not completed any activities that contain those STAR goals, or if they have not yet read a book to Moxie. Over time, as your child continues to play and learn with Moxie, their data pool for these insights will increase. These insights will not paint a complete picture of your child’s developmental progress, and are only supplemental information to be used in conjunction with observed changes in your child’s behavior at home.

How secure is my child’s data?

The collected data is analyzed and encrypted on the robot locally, before it is sent to the cloud. In fact, all communication between robot, cloud, and parent app is end-to-end encrypted. All the analyzed data is completely anonymous and Embodied has no way to directly associate collected data with your child. Embodied is using state-of-the-art privacy technology to secure your child’s data. Further, the parent, with the help of the parent app, is in full control of accessing the data and its management.
